Moving our scheduled departure to a later time allowed the students a chance to walk around the Bikan area of the old town of Kurashiki. Beautiful old warehouses, canals and artist‘s studios. A few students managed to find beautiful Hashi (have names engraved on them) some found hand made prints and most discovered some new sweets.
Riding the Shinkansen and eating bento (or sandwiches) for lunch is a very Japanese thing to do; which they did today as we travelled to Hiroshima for the night.
Ferry to Miyajima to visit the Itsukushima Jinja and Floating Torii gate; founded as a small shrine in 593; it took on its large complex in 1168. A unique style of building stretching out over the water.
Students spent time admiring the all the connecting structures and many took beautiful photos!
Walking through the stalls of food and craft saw the students arrive at their restaurant for dinner: the popular katsukare.
Ferry home to our hotel for the night and all are now settled in bed…
Tomorrow is a special day when we spend time in reflection at the Peace Museum….
