Day 7 – Thursday 21 September

Exploring Nagoya: A New Chapter for a JOE Journey

Leaving behind the solemnity of Hiroshima, our journey took us north/east to Nagoya, an exciting first for JOE teams, to discover a city filled with history and innovation.

Our initial stop, at the Nagoya Planetarium and Science Museum, immersed us in the world of science and astronomy. This remarkable institution boasts the world’s largest planetarium dome, offering breathtaking celestial displays. Todays was about the actual days sun and this evenings moon movements as we enter the Japanese Harvest moon. ( the seats were also comfy and allowed the students to rest for a while)

Who’s this…

We tried the interactive exhibits that explained intricate scientific concepts in a fun and engaging way, even in Japanese everyone learnt and enjoyed something new!

Staying in the heart of Nagoya’s vibrant city we walked to the new Oasis 21 centre as the sun set and lights started to illuminate the built spaces. Tonight the students got to try…

マクドナルド Makudonarudo!
Maccas smiles
Harvest Moon Pies…. Interesting flavor

Tonight one of our students, Sofia, was able to catch up with family friends over a Big Mac! Always making connections.

Moving onto our hotel past the beautiful Chubu Electric Power Mirai Tower ( used to be Nagoya TV Tower) have the students a chance to use the subway… which was a good thing as a storm rolled but it did cool it down and saw us arrive a little wet but refreshed.

We discussed our upcoming journey to the countryside to Mino Ota station by the express Hida Wide View train, where our sister school will be eagerly awaiting our arrival our students are getting excited, and a little nervous about what tomorrow holds we ask you uphold them in your prayers.

  1. Hi Levi, wow you guys sure are getting around. I’m sure you’ll want to sleep for a week when you get back 😅. That planetarium was awesome. You’ve always love them, even as a toddler. We are praying for you as you head to your homestay🥰, you always have impeccable manners so I’m confident you will be the perfect guest. Enjoy every moment of everything different and new, embrace the novelty. Be bold and inquisitive. We love you and miss you lots.

PS: Cuddles has been meowing at your door every night. She tried to eat Asher’s pet stick insect so she’s banished from her room 😂

  4. Hey Jemimah! Looks like an interesting day yesterday. I hope you had fun. Enjoy your time with Natsumi and her family, they are really looking forward to seeing you. They emailed the morning you left last week, and said big sister is living overseas, so it’s just Natsumi and her mum and dad. Enjoy being part of a small family! I’m sure you’ll have a fabulous time. We are home safe from Goondiwindi now. Lots of love, Mum and the others.

yeah, I’m having heaps of fun and it’s finally cooling down 😮‍💨 todays the homestay day!! I’m excited but still super nervous because I’d not want it to feel awkward. A little family will hopefully be nice so I won’t have to make new friends 🤣🤣 I’m so happy to hear that your home safe and I hope you had a wonderful time at Goondiwindi and hope you have a great rest of the holidays. Miss you all and love you heaps,

  6. Dear Ms Shimizu,
Thank you again for allowing Sofia to catch up with Yasui and family. Fun fact: Yasui is a builder and was involved in the construction of the Planetarium you guys visited yesterday and coincidentally he is also involved in the renovation of the hotel you stayed. Small world!
