Day 16 – Saturday 30 September

A Day of exploring in Tokyo: From the bay to Shibuya to Asakusa

Very quiet this morning

Our first stop was the Shibuya Crossing, a symphony of movement where at each signal around 2500 cross… our driver was concerned that it was a little busy and wasn’t able to park so we weren’t able to cross it!

Driving past the historic Asakusa area and the modern marvel of Roppongi Hills, the central loop highway wove between the old and the new. And every now and again Skytree could be seen.

Don Quixote, a vibrant emporium of goods, awaited us next. This multi-story shop is a treasure trove of Japanese souvenirs, electronics, and quirky finds, catering to every taste and curiosity. Many students were still hunting for that special treasure.

Our journey continued to the sacred Sensoji Temple and Nakamisedori street, a haven for Japanese-styled mementos. The air was alive with the scent of incense and the soft murmur of prayers.

After our last shopping adventure we ascended Tokyo Skytree, the world’s tallest freestanding tower. From its lofty heights, the sprawling cityscape unfolded like a living tapestry beneath us. Students were in awe as they realized just how big and tightly packed Tokyo is. No Fuji San this evening

For dinner, we ventured to the trendy Sola Machi area around Skytree. Here, our coupon granted us access to a tantalizing array of dishes, from savory ramen to delectable takoyaki and for some chocolate bananas!

As the day concluded, we returned to our first hotel in Tokyo, the place where our journey began. With memories of bustling streets, ancient temples, mountains of shoppers choices, our hearts were filled with gratitude for this extraordinary adventure in Tokyo but they are looking homeward bound after.

Tomorrow holds the last of our adventures; Miraikan and Teamlab.

  3. Caiti, it looks like you have had an amazing adventure. Whilst we have missed you, we are so proud of you for going on this trip. Cooper got his Learners permit and dad took him for his first driving lesson. Poppa Rex was given the all clear by the specialists. We received your lovely letter, thank you. 😘 It is Grandma’s birthday tomorrow (Monday) and we will all head down there for lunch once you arrive back in Oz, so get some sleep on the flight. Enjoy the last few moments of Japan and have safe travels home. See you tomorrow morning. 🌄 Love mum and dad.

    1. Thank you currently I am waiting for the plane which has been delayed. I hope Cooper doesn’t pick me up because he would probably crash.
      Anyway see you tomorrow 🙂
