Day 10 – Here, there and everywhere…

Tuesday 27 September

This morning saw our students go into immersion classes; home ec, cooking pizza, some doing maths which was challenging and other doing English which they still found challenging due the nature of the lessons.

After lunch in the school cafe the team travelled to Shogenji Temple. This is a well known temple for professional sports people and politicians whom attend Zen training to help them sharpen their focus! 

We were guided by the Abott of the the temple and spent time admiring the gardens. After the temple visit we were taken to the University to have a look at the campus. They shared a cup of matcha and a wagashi cake with the monks.

Students were given the opportunity to learn about Zen and took a short practice session. Teaching the practice of meditation from a Christian perspective of mindfulness and waiting on our Lord. The students learnt to calm their breathing, still thoughts and correct their posture. 

Returning to school the students tried Kendo and some students were given more matcha by the Minokamo students who study Ochado.

As the afternoon drew near the students became both excited and a little nervous about meeting their host families. Be assured that the staff both at the sister school and ourselves have spent time preparing all parties for this part of the exchange. 

The students were waved off for their first night with their new Japanese families with the promise that we will be waiting for them in the morning. They know we are just a phone call away but they are so resilent and determined! Mrs S, Misss R, Mr C, Mr H and Miss W.
